Father Kenneth Baker, S.J. discusses the leadership deficit in the Church. Due to this crisis, the Church cannot fulfill her two main purposes: to promote the Glory and Worship of God and to provide for the eternal salvation of souls who have been created for heaven. The current crisis is made manifest by historical examples from the the reigns of the six outstanding popes from Pius IX to Pius XII. These heroic Pontiffs led the Church and left it strong; under their guidance, the Church grew rich in vocations and was universally respected.
