Mr. Michael Davies and Mr. Christopher A. Ferrara discuss the Church's position on evolution. The Pontifical Biblical Commission, when it was still an authoritative body, prescribed a number of important beliefs for the Creation account of Genesis. One must believe that Eve was literally taken from the side of Adam, that humanity descended from this original couple, that they succumbed to the temptation of Satan in the form of a serpent, and disobeyed a specific command of God. With all these prescriptions, it is hard to believe John Paul II's statement that "evolution is more than a theory."
